June Thomson

First let me begin my story by expressing how excited I am to be contributing to Team in Training in the capacity of coach and that those of you reading this have either already committed to the cause or are seriously considering it. Team in Training changes lives, for the patients, their families and for those of us who are fundraising and running on their behalf.

My journey began in 2006, about two years after losing my mum to lung cancer. I had moved back to Vancouver, ran the Vancouver Sun Run, just about keeled over from the lack of training and as luck would have it, walked straight up to the TNT table where I learned about the program they offered. I was super intrigued. I wanted a Tiffany necklace. I needed the challenge. I was game. Fast forward to completing that first Nike Women's Half Marathon, I had just completed the longest distance run of my life, I felt great and I had raised just over $7000.

Now I can say that I have successfully run four half marathons, three of which were the Nike Womens in San Francisco. And while I am not the fastest runner, each event got a bit easier on all fronts, including the fundraising - I have now raised around $24,000 for the cause and have gained a community in return. I am driven to continue with Team in Training because I believe in the mission and because of what I personally get back from participating. My life is better with TNT in it.

In my professional life, I am the Chief Operating Officer for Vancouver based YYoga. In this capacity I spend a great deal of time coaching and developing others; I am thrilled to have the opportunity to use these skills in a new way. My passion is health & fitness. When I am not at work I am staying active with my five year old son, running, CrossFitting or helping others discover new ways to improve their quality of life. This is a natural fit for me. I can't think of a better use of my time than to work with this amazing group of people for an amazing cause.

I look forward to meeting all of the new participants and coaching them through this journey. Whether this is your first half-marathon or your tenth, it's going to be a lot of fun and I know from my own experience that you will get as much out of it for yourself as you be contributing Team in Training.
