My name is Melissa MacIntosh and I am a survivor of Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. I was diagnosed on March 31, 1993 when I was 3 ½ years old.
I was treated with chemotherapy and radiation treatments for about 3 years. The cancer went into remission for a final time on September 27, 1996. I am now 23 years old and have been in remission and cancer free for 16 years.
As a survivor, funding for research is so important, because without the amount of research and knowledge there is today on medicine related to Leukemia, I may have not won my battle
I am a two time alumni with Team in Training. I first joined the team in January of 2012 and ran 10km in the Bluenose Marathon and then signed up for Montreal’s Rock n Roll Marathon, where I ran my first ever 21.1km.
By joining Team in Training, you are giving hope to many people who are battling the disease that affects a number of our population. You are also helping to save a life. Please join me in stopping Leukemia in it tracks, and find a cure together.
