Ryan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on December 31st, 2011 when he was just 4 years old. He had been sick quite often, but nobody knew just how sick he was. Although there were many visits to doctors, it wasn't until late December that a blood test was done. We knew almost immediately that Ryan had some type of cancer. He was sent to the IWK by ambulance right away and his whole life changed.
Ryan has had side effects from his treatments; two of the worst being leg pain that is so severe at times that he can't walk, and a loss in appetite so great that he often needs a feeding tube. Ryan truly believes the words, 'What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger.' He likes to sing the song and was brave enough recently to stand up in front of his whole school and sing it. Ryan has two more years of treatments to go through and he faces challenges every day, but his strength and courage inspire many.
By joining Team In Training, you will be playing a part in finding a cure for cancer. On behalf of our family, and that of the 100,000 other Canadians living with or in remission from blood cancer, THANK YOU!
